100-YEAR-OLD NEW YORK WOMAN HITS MAN, 84, WITH HER CAR

An 84-year-old upstate New York man is hospitalized after police say he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 100-year-old Hudson Valley woman.  Police in the town of Ulster say Bernard Smith was crossing Route 9W  when he was struck by a car driven by Kathryn Schneider.

Smith is recovering from head injuries at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.  Schneider wasn't charged.

COULD TATTOOS HELP CATCH CRIMINALS? SCIENTISTS DEVELOP ALGORITHMS TO SCAN AND IDENTIFY DISTINCTIVE INKING

Whether its a distinctive gangland mark or a traditional rose, the police may soon be able to identify criminals using just their tattoos.

A US government agency is asking computer scientists to develop an algorithm capable of distinguishing between tattoos and sketches on paper, as well as spot the differences between similar marks.  The image-based software must also be able to work even if the inking is partially obscured, by hair or a T-shirt.

NDP MPP JAGMEET SINGH STATEMENT ON LIBERAL GOVERNMENT POLICING ANNOUNCEMENT

“We have been talking to legal groups, civil rights groups and community leaders who have spelled it out: Carding violates two fundamental Charter rights: the right to not be arbitrarily detained, and the right to not be subjected to unreasonable search and seizure.

“This is an important issue that effects the lives of racialized people across this province. When I brought forward my plan a week before the end of the legislature, it was because I have personally experienced the effect of these policies, and as a criminal defence lawyer I represented clients who were hurt by these issues.

NEW JERSEY COP KILLS HIS EX-WIFE IN FRONT OF YOUNG DAUGHTER AFTER A CAR CHASE.

Witnesses heard Philip Seidle shouting about an ongoing court battle over the former couple’s nine children, who range in age from 7 to 24.

Seidle was obsessed with porn and video games, cheated on his wife and often got violent with her. When she was pregnant, he once kicked her in the stomach, and also held a gun to her head and cocked it, according to a filed divorce complaint.  The complaint also said that he beat her on her birthday when she fought with him about a charge for pornography on their cable bill.

Seidle was charged with murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and endangering the welfare of a child — his daughter.  He was held at Monmouth County Correctional Institute on $2 million bail, and faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted on the murder charge.

GERMAN QUADRUPLETS BORN TO 65-YEAR-OLD MOTHER.

Doctors say quadruplets born prematurely a month ago to a 65-year-old woman in Germany are doing well and gaining weight but one remains on a respirator.

Berlin's Charite hospital said Wednesday the four babies — a girl named Neeta and three boys named Dries, Bence and Fjonn — have put on 30 to 50 percent of their birth weights since they were delivered by cesarean section on May 19.

The retired schoolteacher already has 13 other children aged 9 to 44 from five fathers. She traveled abroad to have donated, fertilized eggs implanted — a procedure that's illegal in Germany.
