MAN VISITING A BROOKLYN APARTMENT BUILDING DIES IN ELEVATOR ACCIDENT

A locksmith, visiting friends at a luxury apartment building in  Brooklyn, stepped into an elevator whose unpredictable jerks and wobbles had occasionally unnerved tenants.

The door remained open but the elevator plunged to the basement, carrying the 37 yr old man, Eran Modan,  and four friends. They were all afraid, one of the friends said later, but only Mr. Modan decided to try stepping out. The floor of the basement, now almost level with the cab, was in sight.

In an instant the small elevator shot back up toward the lobby. Its stainless-steel door was still ajar and Mr. Modan only halfway out. His body was crushed between the elevator, the basement ceiling and the elevator shaft. He was pronounced dead by emergency medical workers.

A GEORGIA TROOPER WAS FIRED AFTER A PROBE FINDS HE WAS SPEEDING IN A CRASH THAT KILLED 2 TEENS

State Patrol Trooper Anthony Scott, 26, was fired  following the tragic deaths of 17-year-old Kylie Lindsey and 16-year-old Isabella Chinchilla.

The former U.S. Marine was driving 90 mph, and wasn't responding to a work related call,   when he plowed into the back of a Nissan Sentra carrying the girls and two of their male friends.

A FLEEING MOTORCYCLIST STUNS FLORIDA POLICE WHEN HE GOES HANDS-FREE TO SEND TEXTS DURING AN INTENSE CHASE

A fleeing motorcyclist stunned Florida police when he went hands-free to send text messages during an “intense” chase this week.

The man was caught on camera by the Martin County Sheriff's Office as he was being pursued at high speed by the helicopter on Interstate 95.

The pilot of the helicopter "strategically forced" the motorcyclist off the interstate after he was spotted driving erratically, officials said.

SCIENTISTS FIND A WAY TO CAUSE TEMPORARY INFERTILITY IN MICE. COULD THIS LEAD TO THE FIRST BIRTH CONTROL PILL FOR MEN?

The findings, reported in the Oct. issue of “Science,” raise the possibility of more birth control options for men beyond condoms and vasectomies.

"It is important that we find an effective and reversible contraceptive option to allow men more control over their own reproductive futures," Masahito Ikawa, the study’s lead researcher, told “Science.”

Researchers focused on a protein found in both mice and men.  Ikawa’s team was able to sterilize the rodents by temporarily blocking the protein.   They fed the mice two existing drugs, cyclosporine A and tacrolimus.  Thus they were able to block their production of calcineurin.

Without calcineurin, the mice were essentially infertile since their sperm was too weak to impregnate females.

When the scientists stopped doping the rodents, their fertility came back within a week, Ikawa said.  It’s not yet known if the same process will work in human males even though they too carry calcineurin in their sperm.

Such a simple and effective method of birth control is sorely needed for men, said Dr. Abraham Morgentaler, a member of the board of directors for the American Sexual Health Association.

NYPD SERGEANT ACCUSED OF RANTING ABOUT DOMINICAN COPS IN A BRONX PRECINCT

The derogatory comments were allegedly made Sunday during morning roll call at the 40th Precinct building in the Bronx.

The NYPD is investigating a claim that a black sergeant derided Dominican officers in her Bronx precinct as "stupid and crazy.” 

Sgt. Tameika Goode is now the subject of a probe by the department’s Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, according to an NYPD spokesman, Deputy Chief Edward Mullen.

A 25-year-old woman who said she was sexually assaulted has sued the NYPD, charging that  2 Special Victims Unit police, ,investigating her case, took her out before one of them groped her in bed.

The woman, whose name the Daily News is withholding, seeks $3 million from the city for the "gross and repugnant dereliction" of duty by 2 NYPD detectives, according to her suit filed in Manhattan Federal Court.

CANADIAN CHOICES ARE KEY.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Sept. 14, 2015) - Once again, Canada ranks among the world's most economically free countries, ranking ninth overall according to the Fraser Institute's annual Economic Freedom of the World report. 

The report measures the economic freedom (levels of personal choice, ability to enter markets, security of privately owned property, rule of law, etc.) by analyzing the policies and institutions of 157 countries and territories. 

"Economic freedom breeds prosperity and economically free countries like Canada offer the highest quality of life while the lowest-ranked countries are usually burdened by oppressive regimes that limit the freedom and opportunity of their citizens," said Fred McMahon, Dr. Michael A. Walker Research Chair in Economic Freedom with the Fraser Institute. 

The United States, once considered a bastion of economic freedom, ranks 16th in the world. 

"A weakened rule of law, the so-called wars on terrorism and drugs, and a confused regulatory environment have helped erode economic freedom in the United States, which remains behind Canada and other more economically free countries such as Qatar, Jordan and the U.A.E.," McMahon said.

Why not?

1. He has Promised  his government will create many new jobs. Anyone who has studied economics knows that this is a load of crap. Jobs are created by businesses who invest in new opportunities developed as a result of a sound economy.

2. His government will budget for a deficit. Deficits do not result in a sound economy. 

3. He mocks Harper for promoting a 'Politics of Fear'. A convicted terrorist threatening to plant bombs in our country is something to worry about. I guess Justin prefers a 'Politics of Recklessness'.

4. Removing citizenship from convicted terrorists doesn't diminish everyone's citizenship, as Trudeau trumpets. Rather it seems to me such action would enhance it.

5. Check out his education and experience. Is he totally dependent on daddy's record or his 'cute' looks?

WASHINGTON SIBLINGS SAY A COUSIN KILLED THEIR DAD AFTER STARTING AN INCESTUOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM

Two Washington state siblings say their cousin killed their father on Christmas Day after they began an incestuous relationship and ran away together to Belize.

Jennifer Ralston and her brother Caleb McNamara filed a civil lawsuit last week against their cousin who moved back to central Washington after the death of their father, Timothy McNamara.

The two claim their cousin put their dad's life insurance policy and his property in her name before she shot him.  The U.S. does not have the authority to arrest Nessl since the alleged murder happened in Belize.

The siblings claim that On Christmas Day 2014, Nessl shot Timothy McNamara in the back of the head with a shotgun. She had put their dad's Washington state properties in her name and listed herself on his life insurance policy.

Nessl had called the son, Caleb McNamara, a day later to tell him his dad died after he accidentally shot himself. Belize police later ruled his death a suicide. The siblings pursued their dad's suspicious death and eventually got Interpol to issue a warrant for Nessl's arrest in Belize, but by then, their cousin was already back in Washington living on the family farm. This was one of the properties she put in her name  before the shooting, they claimed.

U.S. officials do not have the power to arrest Nessl, and extradition back to Belize is a complicated process, the siblings said. That's why they filed the civil lawsuit.

Nessl has since cut off any communication with the siblings and won't allow them into the family farm, they said.

A former Oklahoma police officer was sentenced to two years behind bars for teaching people how to cheat in lie-detector tests, according to the Department of Justice.  Douglas Williams, 69, the owner of Polygraph.com, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of mail fraud and three counts of witness tampering.

Rocker Chrissie Hynde’s  comments suggesting women may be to blame if they’re raped has led to public outrage. The Pretenders singer struck a sour note when she  said in an interview that she takes “full responsibility” for her own rape 42 years ago, back when she was just a 21-year-old student at Kent State University in Ohio. She was sexually assaulted by members of a biker gang while she was high on drugs.

Her statements are indeed controversial. “You know if you don't want to entice a rapist, don't wear high heels so you can't run from him." or “If you’re wearing something that says ‘Come and f--- me’, you’d better be good on your feet.” or  “You can’t f--- about with people, especially people who wear ‘I Heart Rape’ and ‘On Your Knees’ badges.”

PERVERT POSES AS A COP, AND THREATENS WOMEN WITH ARREST IF THEY WON’T HAVE SEX WITH HIM

A South Florida man pretended to be a cop so he could threaten women with jail time if they didn’t have sex with him.

Mark William Rose, 22, appeared in court Thursday on charges of impersonating a police officer in the commission of a felony and false imprisonment.  Rose tried his trick with a dozen women in the last few months and succeeded in sleeping with three of them. Sheriff’s deputies eventually caught up to him trying to scare another woman into sex.

Most of the victims were prostitutes, and he added fear to some of his victims by bringing them to the Broward Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale to warn them they were about to be cuffed.

MURDER RATES RISING SHARPLY IN MANY U.S. CITIES

MILWAUKEE — Cities across the nation are seeing a startling rise in murders after years of declines, and few places have witnessed a shift as precipitous as this city. With the summer not yet over, 104 people have been killed this year — after 86 homicides in all of 2014.

More than 30 other cities have also reported increases in violence from a year ago. In New Orleans, 120 people had been killed by late August, compared with 98 during the same period a year earlier. In Baltimore, homicides had hit 215, up from 138 at the same point in 2014. In Washington, the toll was 105, compared with 73 people a year ago. And in St. Louis, 136 people had been killed this year, a 60 percent rise from the 85 murders the city had by the same time last year.

Law enforcement experts say disparate factors are at play in different cities, though no one is claiming to know for sure why murder rates are climbing. Some officials say intense national scrutiny of the use of force by the police has made officers less aggressive and emboldened criminals. 

Rivalries among organized street gangs, often over drug turf, and the availability of guns are cited as major factors in some cities, including Chicago. But more commonly, many top police officials say they are seeing a growing willingness among disenchanted young men in poor neighborhoods to use violence to settle ordinary disputes.

“Maintaining one’s status and credibility and honor, if you will, within that peer community is literally a matter of life and death,” Milwaukee’s police chief, Edward A. Flynn, said. “And that’s coupled with a very harsh reality, which is the mental calculation of those who live in that strata that it is more dangerous to get caught without their gun than to get caught with their gun.”

Three teenagers and one 20-year-old were arrested 

for the McDonald’s melee. One of the suspects, 17-year-old Kailin Holland, was charged with second-degree battery, a felony, a released on $10,000 bond. The other three, Sierra Gregoire, 18; Bradnika Gregoire, 20; and a 16-year-old, who hasn’t been identified, face misdemeanour summonses for simple battery.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN MARINE SAYS, "BLACK LIVES MATTER PROMOTES RACISM”

A young black marine, who has made several viral rant style videos about the Black Lives Matter movement appeared on Megan Kelly’s Fox News show this week, and declared that the movement “promotes racism.”

Urging that “all lives matter,” Michael Whaley in his latest viral video described how appalled he was to see black activists calling for violence and for killing white people.

Whaley noted that his views are unpopular with black Americans because “black people can’t accept the truth about themselves.”

He noted that Americans shouldn’t be shouting “eff the police,” because there are plenty of good cops who are still about seeking justice in their communities.

Whaley told Kelly that he has received a ton of “hateful” reaction from people who disagree with his views, but accepts they are entitled to their “freedom of speech”.

He said that black and white people should not treat each other as enemies because “we have somebody else behind closed doors actually pulling the strings and causing a lot of racism here in America.”

Whaley also pointed a finger at the mainstream media for stoking racial tension, noting that headlines like “white officer kills unarmed black man” are being bandied around devoid of context.

Whaley urged people of all colours to promote harmony, and accused the Black Lives Matter movement of encouraging young black people to “throw away their lives.”

SUSPECT IDENTIFIED AS 30-YEAR-OLD SHANNON J. MILES IN TEXAS IN 'COLD-BLOODED' SHOOTING DEATH OF TEXAS SHERIFF'S DEPUTY

Shannon J. Miles, 30, will be charged with capital murder for allegedly gunning down the officer as he pumped gas. Sheriff Ron Hickman released few details about the suspect. Miles has a list of prior convictions including resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct with a fire arm, he said.

Calling the shooting a "senseless and cowardly act," Hickman said there is no other apparent motive other than the deputy "was wearing a uniform." Investigators tracked Miles down based on his car and license number.

Harris County Sheriff's Office Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, a married father of two, was shot and killed in the ambush  while fuelling up his police cruiser at a Houston gas station.

The South Carolina teen who went missing on her way to school last week has been charged with filing a false police report after she was found safe.

Marley McKenna Spindler, 16, vanished on her first day of junior year at Socastee High School, Myrtle Beach.

There were fears that the teen had been abducted after she sent friends a message saying she thought someone was following her just before she disappeared. But she was found safe a week later and initially told police she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted, police said.

When questioned by detectives, Spindler told them “she had been kidnapped from the Myrtle Beach area and had been sexually assaulted since being here in the Charleston area,” according to the report. But after being questioned further by detectives she was charged with filing a false police report.

POLICE IN OREGON LOOKING FOR ‘PORTLAND POOPER’ WHO KEEPS DEFECATING OUTSIDE THE SAME OFFICE BUILDING

 

Portland police are pursuing a prolific public pooper who has been spotted doing his doody outside the same office building several times this month.

Oregon’s mystery defecator was caught on camera excreting outside the building, with toilet paper in hand, so many times a business owner spread fliers around the city asking for help catching the “Portland Pooper.”  After word of the pooper leaked, police identified the man as a criminal suspect who could get charges for offensive littering and disorderly conduct dumped on him if he’s caught.

Grossed-out locals noted that the pooper comes prepared to each of his crimes. It’s unclear if the pooper is targeting the office building for any particular reason, but his illegal relief  is not an issue of toilet access.

ANGRY PARENTS SENDING DEATH THREATS ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO THEIR CHILDREN'S TEACHERS, SHOCKING SURVEY REVEALS

Parents are sending death threats to their children's teachers on social media, a shocking new survey has revealed. Three out of four teachers in in the U.K. have said parents’ behaviour toward them has become more obnoxious in the last five years.

The poll of 796 teachers in England and Wales also revealed that the parents of younger students tend to be more  aggressive towards teachers. And teachers have been subjected to nasty comments about their appearance, weight and sexuality. They  also are having their teaching ability called into question as well as their character. 

“We’ve had a teacher going on maternity leave and parents posting comments like, ‘How selfish is this, going off and leaving my child without a teacher?"

Teachers claim parents’ use of social media is making the problem worse, with one teacher in Cumbria, England, saying she has received late-night threats.

ALABAMA MAN KILLS WOMAN AFTER SUNDAY DINNER WITH HER FAMILY

Antonio Williams, 22, is charged with capital murder in Jacoria Ray’s Sunday death. Her body was found on the side of a Birmingham road about 2 hours after she and Williams left her grandmother’s house. Police have not detailed the relationship between Williams and Ray, but her family said the former soldier was the first man Ray ever brought home.

Jacoria and her new beau had an early dinner at her grandmother’s home. The two seemed happy but grandma Cynthia Brown said she got a bad feeling from Williams. "She thought maybe she had found someone special,” Brown said, but added, “I wasn't feeling it.”

The two left together in Ray’s Dodge Charger around 4 p.m. They planned first to drop off Ray’s 12-year-old brother at another relative’s home and then deliver a plate of leftovers to Ray’s mom, who was sick in bed and couldn’t make the family dinner. Ray promised she would be at her mom’s house by 6 p.m.

GIRL, 17, FOUND DEAD IN GERMANY AFTER BEING KIDNAPPED AND HELD FOR $1.1 MILLION RANSOM

The daughter of a wealthy German businessman, named  Anneli-Marie R. was snatched off the street last week in the city of Meissen as she walked her dog.

Her desperate parents pleaded with the abductors not to harm their daughter and said they would pay any amount of money for her safe return.  But today, a body was found in an abandoned farmyard in   Klipphausen, not far from where the 17-year-old lived.

"We are working on the assumption it is Anneli,” said police spokesman Thomas Knaup. Two men have been arrested, one in the city of Dresden, and the other in a town in Bavaria.

GRANDSON OF NELSON MANDELA CHARGED WITH RAPE

Nelson Mandela’s grandson has been charged with raping a 15-year-old girl inside a South African bar bathroom.

Mbuso Mandela, 24, appeared in a Johannesburg court Monday. He will stay in police custody until at least Friday, when he is given a formal bail hearing.  Police said Mandela sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl Friday while dining at a popular Johannesburg restaurant.

The teenage girl was having dinner with some friends when she excused herself to go to the bathroom. Mandela allegedly attacked her inside.

“He grabbed her and raped her inside one of the toilets,” A spokesman said.

A BARRAGE OF 600 SHOTS, FIRED BY POLICE, KILLED ARMED CALIFORNIA BANK ROBBERS AND A HOSTAGE 

Firing over 600 shots at armed bank robbery suspects with a hostage last year was “excessive and unnecessary,” according to a review of the Stockton, Calif. police released on Monday.

Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones revealed shortly after the heist that police bullets actually killed the hostage when one of the suspects used her as a shield. The suspect who put her in front of him in the hail of gunfire was the only survivor from the getaway car.

Jones asked for an independent investigation from the Police Foundation to examine the robbery. That report faulted the department for a lack of planning when police shot up the Ford Explorer carrying the suspects and hostage, Holt-Singh, after a 62-minute, 63-mile chase at speeds of up to 120 m.p.h.

“In reviewing dispatch tapes and in response to interviews, the review team determined there was no planned response for when the suspect vehicle stopped,” the report by the Washington, D.C. based policing research group found. “This lack of planning, along with the number of officers involved, created a level of chaos that was difficult to manage and overcome.” 

The deadly shootout came as officers were trying to capture a group of three gunmen who put 14 police vehicles, including the department’s armoured BearCat, out of commission. One of the men fired over 100 rounds at police with an AK-47.

THE MURDERERS

Desiray Strickland (L) and Christian Colon (R) were charged with second-degree murder.

Jonathan Lucas (L) and Kaheem Arbelo (R) confessed to slaying Jose Guardado, police said.

Four Florida students, pictured above, hacked a 17-year-old boy with a machete and buried him alive before two of the killers celebrated by having sex near the murder scene, police said.

Desiray Strickland, 18, Kaheem Arbelo, 20, Jonathan Lucas, 18, and Christian Colon, 19, were arrested and confessed to the crime. 

The twisted friend group plotted for two weeks, even digging the grave and hiding a machete beforehand in a wooded area near the Homestead Job Corps campus, where all five students lived about 35 miles south of Miami.

As Lucas and Colon headed back to campus, Strickland and Arbelo stayed behind to have sex, police said.

FRENCH COUPLE HAVING SEX ON ANCIENT FORTRESS WALL FALL INTO MOAT AND DIE

A French couple apparently got carried away while making love on the battlement of a stone fortress and fell into its moat, where both died.  Police found the body of a naked man in a dry section of the moat. A woman's nude body was found in a shallow patch of water around the Vauban fort in the Chausey archipelago in northwestern France.

The drop to the moat is 40 feet.  Local police said the couple was found naked, "with their belongings above."
