A NEW STUDY FINDS THAT YOUNGSTERS WHO REGULARLY SMOKED MARIJUANA ARE FAR SHORTER THAN THEIR NON-SMOKING PEERS.

Researchers found that youngsters who were addicted to the drug were far shorter than their non-smoking peers. They also found that rather than being a relaxing pass time, smoking dope actually makes the body more stressed in the long term.

NAKED, MACHETE-WIELDING MAN THREATENS LONG ISLAND N.Y. COSTCO CUSTOMERS.

A naked, machete-wielding man  allegedly threatened bystanders and a police officer Monday on Long Island. The man was charged with menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, the report said. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday.

NURSE JAILED FOR LIFE FOR POISONING PATIENTS

A Filipino male nurse was jailed for life for poisoning 21 patients with insulin at a British hospital, two of whom died. 

Victorino Chua, 49, injected insulin into saline bags, ampoules and other healthcare products while working on two wards at Stepping Hill Hospital, near Manchester in northwest England, in June and July 2011.

Despite some progress in expanding access, nearly three billion cook, using polluting fuels, the World Bank said on Monday. The global electrification rate rose to 85 percent in 2012 from 83 percent in 2010, pushing the number of people without access to electric power down to 1.1 billion from 1.2 billion. Between $40 billion and $100 billion is needed each year to provide everyone with access to electricity.

New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton is behind a controversial proposal for the city.  He wants to explore granting amnesty to 1.2 million city residents with open warrants for low-level offences.  The offences include marijuana use, failure to resolve tickets for drinking in public, disorderly conduct and the like.  But some experts worry it could cause crime to skyrocket.
